LEARNING THE GIFT OF GIVING
Our staff and students strive to live our Mercy charism, one of the ways we do this is through service in our community and in the wider world. Each year our students organise stalls and activities for ‘Mission Day’, these include games, baking, face painting, raffles, white elephant stall, sausage sizzle, busking etc. Half the money raised on this day goes to our Tearfund child, Juliana in the Philippines and the other half goes to a local charity.
At St Mary’s we love a good, themed mufti day, especially one that supports a good cause. In the past we have supported Gumboot Friday, Daffodil Day, Purple Day for Epilepsy, and even our own families who have been going through a rough time. We also enjoy mufti days as a celebration e.g. St Patrick’s Day, Book Character Day, and our Spirit of Southland leaders organise a Christmas mufti day each year.
Each Easter our students make beautiful cards and with the help of St Vincent de Paul, deliver these to each rest home in town.

We have a strong relationship with our local RSA and regularly spend time making and delivering gift packs on their behalf to our local veterans, their widows, and members of the club. Our children’s enthusiasm for serving others, like Jesus did, is something that we are incredibly proud of.
